jewellery box

DIY

It’s a beautiful and functional jewellery box, which you can make at home with materials at hand.

You need a board with length about 130 cm and width 12 cm, nails, three lovely small door handles and 4 or 8 hooks for handing. Cut out the board at separate elements: 3 elements at 30 cm and 2 elements at 16 cm. fit them together in the way shown on the picture and after that smooth the borders with fine sandpaper. If you want to leave the natural wood color just polish some times with an acrylic lacquer, but wait every previous layer to dry well. You can paint your jewellery box in suitable color, depending on your interior. After the paint has dried well, fix the decorative handles on the face side and put sideways the handing hooks. Fix the box well to the wall with dowels and screws, or with hooks. If you want, you can place a not big mirror in a suitable frame. So you’ll have a beautiful place to save your jewellery and in the same time it will be an accent in the interior.

To work it, you need a wooden Christmas box or a box of natural pasteboard, acrylic paints, decoupage glue, a paper serviette suitable for decoupage, a ribbon, an acrylic lacquer, a brush or foam rubber tampon and brocade glue. Paint the lid of the box with white acrylic paint. Wait to dry well and cut out your Christmas motif of the serviette and take the top layer of the serviette which you will use. Coat the surface of the lid with some decoupage glue uniformly. Put the serviette on it and start to pull and strain carefully, after that, with the help of a wide brush and the decoupage glue push away all the air bubbles, as you start from the middle to the periphery, coating again uniformly of the glue. Leave to dry and in the same time paint the lower part of your Christmas box. It can be in Bordeaux or other preferred of you color. When the two parts of the box are dried, polish with the acrylic lacquer. When the lacquer has dried, go on to the final decoration of your Christmas box. Put of the brocade glue where you want to have a luster, and stick a satin ribbon round the lower part. So you‘ve got a ready unique Christmas box made of you, in which you can put your present or Christmas sweets.

Here are some ideas to make a lovely and practical box to save small lifestyle objects.

If you have got an old but well preserved container of some preparation, you can remake it in an excellent box for office materials or other tiny objects. Depending on the form of the plastic tube you can improvise and to create a unique handmade and decorated box on your own. Here are some basic rules you have to respect while working. First you have to clean well and skim the tube. After, with the help of a permanent marker, draw the form you want to get and eventually the opening with different shapes. For more regular forms and curves you can use student` s stencil. Depending on the thickness of the material, you can choose a modal knife or a very fine saw or metal hack-saw with small cogs. It is better to use an electrical instrument type “Dremel“, because it has many appliances and do a smooth section. Carefully cut on the drawn contours and after that smooth with fine sandpaper. After you have got the wanted form of your box, decorate it with different techniques and materials. If you are a good painter, use acrylic paints and create your unique pictures on your new box. You can also use the DECOUPAGE techniques with which you can use a ready image and remove it on your box. You can use different ribbons, artificial flowers or other design to get the final look you want.
